How do you worship?

When we gather together as the Church, do you ever consider “how” it is that we worship? I’m not talking about the songs we sing, the scripture that’s shared, the sermon that’s preached or the prayers that are prayed. I’m talking about the mystery. The mystery that we finite beings in a broken world are able to connect and commune with the infinite triune, the Creator of the universe. How is it that we’re able to do that?!

We are only able to come to God the Father, only through God the Son, and only with the assistance of God the Spirit. So even the worship we ascribe to God is only possible because of God.

The word of the song Our God Saves by Paul Baloche is a great reminder to us that recognizes the Holy Trinity:

In the Name of the Father
In the Name of the Son
In the Name of the Spirit
Lord we come
We’re gather’d together
To lift up Your Name
To call on our Savior
To fall on Your grace

The more I think about it, I guess the “how” of worship IS about the songs we sing, the scripture that’s shared, etc. Any and all things we do in the gathering of the Church, must be done in the Name of, for, because of, and through God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So as you go about doing the service of worship, “may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14 NLT)
