What can you offer?

Do you have a list? Have you been checking it? Twice? My wife is really good at making lists. Lists of birthdays and anniversaries. Lists of things to do, movies to watch, CDs to buy, books to read. And around this time of year, lists of gift ideas for everyone on that first list, even herself. (Phew, thanks, that gives me an idea…)

Now on that first Christmas, the Magi brought some very unusual gifts. Full of meaning and foretelling, but practical? No. There is a joke that if the wise men had been women, they would have asked for directions, arrived on time, and brought diapers and casseroles. But really, what’s the perfect gift for the person who has everything (or made everything for that matter)?

Christmas Offering by Paul Baloche

Over the skies of Bethlehem appeared a star
While angels sang to lowly shepherds
Three wise men seeking truth traveled from afar
Hoping to find the Child from heaven
Falling on their knees they bowed
Before the humble Prince of Peace

I bring an offering of worship to my King
No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing
Jesus may You receive the honor that You’re due
O Lord I bring an offering to You
I bring an offering to You

The sun cannot compare to the glory of Your love
There is no shadow in Your presence
No mortal man would dare to stand before Your throne
Before the Holy One of heaven
It’s only by Your blood and it’s only through Your mercy
Lord I come

Here’s the Creator of all things, the Redeemer of all mankind, the Savior of the world. What can you give? What can you offer? You.
