What Are You Seeking?

The magical trimmings of Christmas have been popping up more and more lately. A commercial here, store decorations there, even a Christmas song on radio. One memorable song has these charming words: and every mother’s child is going to spy, to see if reindeer really know how to fly. I can sure remember not sleeping on several Christmas Eves; so excited to see what Christmas Day would hold!

In Paul Baloche’s song Christmas Offering, the cast of characters are all present at the scene bringing what they have, themselves.

Over the skies of Bethlehem appeared a star
While angels sang to lowly shepherds
Three wise men seeking truth travelled from afar
Hoping to find the Child from heaven
Falling on their knees they bowed
Before the humble Prince of Peace

I bring an offering of worship to my King
No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing
Jesus may You receive the honor that You’re due
O Lord I bring an offering to You

We’re all seeking after something, aren’t we? Riches, recognition, but Royalty? King David challenged us to “Glory in His holy name…Seek His face continually.” (1 Chronicles 16:10-11 NASB) And we’re promised that “if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.” (Deuteronomy 4:29 NLT) And that’s just what the Lord wants.

A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. (John 4:23 NIV)

This Christmas, take the time to seek after what will truly last. Not the latest gadget. Not the largest sale. Not the loftiest acclaim. Just truly seek after the Lord, and you will find Him. And the Lord will find what He seeks, too.
