What is today?

What happened to you this past year? What was most memorable? A new baby? A loved one’s passing? A new job? A new ailment? Easy questions, right? How do you “feel” about them though? Whatever you’ve been through has had a purpose. Did you sense God in the midst? Whether you recognized Him or not, He was aware of your situation. He was waiting to see you through it. To cheer you; to comfort you.

So, looking forward now, what will happen to you this next year? What will be most memorable? A new baby? A loved one’s passing? A new job? A new ailment? Harder questions looking forward, huh? Who knows, right?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

James also reminds us that we really can’t know what our life will be like tomorrow. Our life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. In our planning, we ought to say, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:14-15 NLT)

Read the lyrics to the song Today Is The Day by Lincoln Brewster and Paul Baloche.

I’m casting my cares aside, I’m leaving my past behind
I’m setting my heart and mind on You Jesus
I’m reaching my hands to Yours

I’m putting my fears aside, I’m leaving my doubts behind
I’m giving my hopes and dreams to You Jesus
I’m reaching my hands to Yours

Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good

Today is the day You have made, I will rejoice and be glad in it
I won’t worry about tomorrow, I’m giving You my fears and sorrows
Where You lead me I will follow, I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day

Let this year be filled with todays like that. Rejoicing. Believing. Trusting. Following. Start today.
